In recent years, we have been working to cut unnecessary packaging and the use of single-use plastic. The pyramid tea bags have undergone the biggest change. Tea bags made of biological material are just as suitable and allow us to significantly reduce the use of plastic.
The pyramid bags, which were previously stored in aluminium and plastic packaging, have now become 100 % biodegradable. Both the envelope and the pyramid bag are made of biodegradable material.
Paper and cornflour

The pyramid bag itself, which may look like plastic at first glance, is actually made from cornstarch. They are made from a biodegradable material called PLA, which consists of GMO-free corn starch. The thread the bag hangs from is made of the same material, and the flap at the end is made of biodegradable paper. The envelope is made of paper and has a sustainable material called NatureFlex NK on the inside. This is a type of packaging made from renewable resources, mainly based on cellulose, which is well suited to food packaging.
The boxes the pyramid bags come in are made of paper and can be recycled. In addition, we have removed unnecessary packaging in the shipping.
So despite the fact that a pyramid bag of tea has more packaging than, for example, loose tea, this is 100 % biodegradable waste.
Throw the tea bag in food waste
The bag is biodegradable and fulfils EU requirements (EN 13432). This means that it breaks down completely in a composting environment, within a given time period, without leaving any harmful residues. Which in turn means that the bag can be disposed of in food waste. Sortere.no (The Foundation for Source Sorting and Recycling) recommends removing the thread and tag before disposing of the bag in the food waste.
If you drink a lot of tea, both sortere.no and we recommend drinking loose tea with a reusable teabag or strainer to reduce the amount of waste.
Best sellers in a pyramid bag
You'll find our eight most popular teas in a pyramid bag, perfect for when you only want one cup of tea. You'll find both black and green teas in pyramid bags, as well as three fruit favourites. The teas in the pyramid bags are more finely chopped than those in our loose tea bags, in order to extract the good flavours in the best possible way.
Follow the brewing guide on the back of the envelope and note that green tea in particular needs to be brewed at a lower water temperature.
All pyramid bags with tea can be found in the online store here.
