The story of Solberg & Hansen begins in a grocery store in Oslo in 1879. A fateful meeting between two coffee-thirsty gentlemen, Carl Solberg and Fritjof Hansen, laid the foundation for one of Norway's most knowledgeable companies to see the light of day. Since then, we have been inspired by taste in the pursuit of the world's best cup. This idea shapes everything we do: as a coffee roaster, as well as a supplier of coffee, tea and equipment throughout Norway.

We are Norway's largest and oldest Roastery in specialty coffee, but we are always looking ahead. That's how we push the boundaries. That's why we have been a pioneering company in the coffee industry, both in Norway and internationally. Early on, we started traveling the world in search of the best raw materials from the world's finest coffee districts. This is still one of our most important tasks. Our coffee is traded directly according to sustainable principles, creating long-term relationships with dedicated and skilled coffee farmers across countries and continents.

This has contributed to sustainability and fair trade becoming fundamental values in our part of the industry. At the same time, it is our most important quality assurance. Through travel and close collaboration, we can follow the raw material all the way back to the first shoot of the coffee flower. It is thanks to this traceability that we are able to obtain green beans and tea leaves of exceptionally high quality.

Our job doesn't start at the roastery, but roasting is still our most specialized profession. We roast beans with knowledge acquired over generations. The raw materials and flavors we discover are the driving force, and curiosity for the craft drives us forward. Experimentation becomes progress, and humility is a given. Although our journey does not have a specific destination, we have one clear ambition: to to be a door opener for the world's best cup.
