Coffee at work is one of the most important ingredients in a good working environment, yet almost 700,000 Norwegians are dissatisfied with the quality of the coffee they are served at work. Now Christian Rieder of Solberg & Hansen is filling company cups with a black brew that takes the importance of office coffee seriously.

- Quality of coffee raw materials, cleanliness of brewing equipment, standard of machines and setting of brewing parameters. Even if only one of these factors is neglected, it won't taste good. It's as simple as that, but it also means that knowledge and follow-up are required if you want to have good work coffee for all 230 working days of the year," says Rieder.

According to a survey conducted by Ipsos MMI for Norsk Kaffeinformasjon in 2014, one in three people are dissatisfied with their coffee at work. This corresponds to almost 700,000 Norwegian employees. The same survey shows that those under the age of 40 are least satisfied with the quality. In other words, there is no reason to believe that the demand for better coffee at work will diminish.

- Based on what I've seen of the quality of machines, coffee raw materials and service at Norwegian companies, it's no wonder that many people frown on their work coffee. One thing that is certain is that no one deserves to drink watered-down, thin and incorrectly dosed coffee served from dirty machines. At the same time, a large proportion of people say they are satisfied. My theory is that many of them don't know what they're missing out on with a more quality-conscious supplier," says Rieder.

"Coffee at work should be at the top of the priority list for all Norwegian business leaders. It's a small effort compared to the difference it can make to wellbeing and the working environment"

Five million cups of work coffee a day

The link between work environment, wellbeing and efficiency should not be underestimated, especially in one of the world's most coffee-thirsty countries. Considering that 40% of total consumption is consumed in the office, that equates to almost five million cups of workplace coffee a day.

- If you love coffee prepared by a barista at a coffee shop, then you've probably drunk many cups of coffee roasted and delivered by Solberg & Hansen. And it's the same coffee bar quality we want to bring to the workplace. First-class coffee raw materials, brewed on first-class brewing equipment and taken care of with first-class service. First and foremost, it should be good, but almost as important is that the taste is supported by the expertise that makes it work. We take responsibility and make sure you get the best possible coffee at work every single day.

"And it's the same coffee bar quality we want to bring to the workplace. Premium coffee ingredients, brewed on premium brewing equipment and taken care of with premium service."

From coffee farm to office desk

According to Statistics Norway, at the beginning of 2015 there were more than half a million companies in Norway. Of these, only one per mille had more than 250 employees.

- No two companies are the same, so why should our office coffee offering be? When we embark on this venture, we bring with us the flexibility that has made us the largest among Norwegian specialty coffee roasters. For decades, we have built up long and close relationships with quality-conscious coffee farms in the world's best growing areas. Now we can follow the raw material all the way from its place of origin, via our roastery at Ryen to your office desk. That's what makes good coffee for work," says Christian Rieder.
