This week's ice cube of the week is the carbonated cousin of the iced coffee classic "shakerato". Meet "Espresso & Tonic", an effervescent refreshment straight from the hump of Dromedar coffee shop in Trondheim.

Sparkling refreshment from the capital of Trøndelag

Espresso & Tonic is a sparkling coffee drink that tastes delicious with straight tonic water and a good, cold espresso. It's as easy to make as it glides elegantly across the palate.

This is what you need:

- Double espresso
- Ice cubes
- Tonic water

Here's what to do: Make a double shakerato (brew espresso as normal and stir in a little sugar. Pour it into a shaker filled with ice cubes and shake well. Strain into a glass filled with ice cubes). Serve with the tonic bottle on the side and top up the glass to taste.

Tip! If you don't have an espresso machine, you can use a good old-fashioned mocha pot, for example. A double espresso is equivalent to about 60 milliliters of espresso. Check out our mocha pot brewing guide by clicking on "knowledge" in the menu at the top of this page.

For example, enjoy an "Espresso & Tonic" while you:

Stroll across Nidelven on Gamle Bybro on your way to idyllic Bakklandet. In this old part of town you'll find parks, open spaces, small shops and a varied selection of exciting eateries. In July, the district hosts its own festival, "Bakklandsdagene", with concerts, markets and exhibitions.
